Men's Basketball Welcomes Maine, ESPN3 on 'RAC in Black' Day Saturday Afternoon

Maine at UMBC Game Notes, Feb. 21, 2015

The UMBC men's basketball team plays its penultimate home game of the campaign on Saturday, Feb. 21 when the Maine Black Bears visit RAC Arena. The two America East rivals have engaged in some epic battles in Baltimore the last three years, with Maine winning, 77-76, in overtime in 2012 and UMBC prevailing, 68-67 and 79-76 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Tip-off time at is set for 1:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on Q1370 (www.q1370.com) as Gary Stein and Paul Mittermeier describe the action, while Chris Villani and Frank Sullivan handle the microphones for ESPN3.

 

RETRIEVER UPDATE: Undermanned UMBC (3-23, 1-12 AE) has just one conference win in 2015, but dropped its fourth game decided by three points or less or overtime on Tuesday, falling at Hartford, 55-52. Sophomore Will Darley got a good trey attempt off before the buzzer, but it fell just short. Junior post Cody Joyce led UMBC with 17 points and freshman wing Malcolm Brent added 13. Joyce, the team leader with 13.2 points per game, averages 16.2 points per game in league play and leads America East in scoring. Guard Jourdan Grant needs just became the sixth UMBC DI player to record 100 (102) in his freshman campaign.  

 

BLACK BEAR UPDATE:  Maine (3-23, 2-11 AE) has two solid wins since UMBC defeated the Black Bears, 76-59, last month. They won at Hartford, 70-61, on Jan. 25 and versus rising Binghamton, 67-64 on Feb. 7. Freshman guard Kevin Little has come on of late and leads a balanced attack with 11.4 points per game. Junior post Till Gloger (11.4 ppg), who scored 23 points in a 82-71 setback at UML on Wednesday, is fourth in America East in field goal percentage at 52.9 percent.

 

WHO'S UP NEXT:  UMBC returns to the RAC Arena for its final home games of the season, as they welcome league-leading Albany on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. Senior Devarick Houston will be honored before tip-off time against the Great Danes.
