Women's Soccer's Lisa Nanov Named America East Rookie of the Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC women's soccer's freshman forward Lisa Nanov (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) earned her first America East Rookie of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Nanov was also named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week for the America East.

Nanov tallied a pair of goals on the week, including her first collegiate score and the game-winner in a 3-2 victory against Loyola on Monday, Aug. 25. The multiple-goal performance was the first of the season for the Retrievers and helped the black and gold eliminate a two-goal deficit to remain undefeated.

The rookie led UMBC in shots on the week with eight and placed five of those on goal.

Team Notes From the Week

-UMBC defeated local-rival Loyola for the first time since Sept. 28, 1994.

-The Retrievers have posted a 3-0 start for just the fourth time in program history and the first time since 1996.

-UMBC entered last week ranked ninth in the Northeast Region in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Poll.

On the Horizon

-UMBC returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 2 when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell at 7 p.m. at Emmitt Field inside Holmes Stadium.
