VESTAL, N.Y. – UMBC women's lacrosse outscored Binghamton, 6-2, in the second half of the season finale, including the final three goals of the contest to pull within one with 1:42 remaining, but it was not enough to overcome a five-goal first half deficit in America East action on Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Both teams were eliminated from postseason play and conclude the season with 7-9 overall records and 1-4 marks in league play.

The Retrievers had three players finish with two goals, led by a three-point effort from junior Alyssa Semones (Westminster, Md./Westminster/Penn State). Classmate Abby Wilson (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) and sophomore Kris Coppolino (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs) each tabbed a pair of goals.

Binghamton jumped out to a three-goal lead in the opening 15 minutes of action, with goals by three different Bearcats. Semones got the Retrievers on the board with 10:47 remaining in the half on a pass from sophomore Rachel Benzing (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial).

Freshman Jocelyn Penteck opened the lead back up to three, 4-1, on her first of two scores. Junior Renee Kiviat followed with two straight goals, the first a free position score and the second an unassisted with two seconds remaining in the half, to give Binghamton a 6-1 lead at the break.

The Retrievers scored three straight in the opening three minutes of the second period. Semones and Benzing connected for the second time in the contest 1:01 into the stanza. It took just 1:25 later for Wilson to score her first of the day and Coppolino followed with her first one minute later.

Binghamton looked to hold off the Retrievers' charge with back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart from Penteck and Kiviat to extend the lead back to four, 8-4, with 20:15 remaining in the contest.

Semones dished off a pass to senior Shannon Harkey (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley/Florida) for the first of three straight scores for UMBC. Wilson scored on a free position shot with 5:14 left in the half and Coppolino scored her third in the past two games with 1:42 to go to bring the Retrievers within one, 8-7. Coppolino pulled in the ensuing draw control to give UMBC the chance for the tie, but Binghamton forced a UMBC foul and turnover en route to victory.

UMBC goalkeepers Anna Barnett (Midland, Texas/Midland) and Kelly Gielner (Pasadena, Md./St. Mary's) each saw time in net. Barnett made three stops but was credited with the loss. Gielner made two stops in 20 scoreless minutes of action. Binghamton goalkeeper Kara Pafumi made six stops in the victory.
