Four Retrievers Compete on First Day of NCAA Zone "A" Diving Competition

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – For the second year in a row, four Retriever divers made their way to the NCAA Zone "A" Diving Competition as the men opened on the 3-meter board and the women competed on the 1-meter board on the first of two days, Monday at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

After the Retrievers sent four athletes to last year's competition – two men and two women – the diving crew replicated its feat this season, sending three men to the regional meet for the first time in program history.

Senior Tim Perkins (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), and juniors Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and Pak Lam Wong (Hong Kong/Kowloon Technical School) all competed for the Retrievers on the 3-meter board on the first day.  Wong led the UMBC contingent in 38th with a score of 223.65 while Green (213.10) and Perkins (207.65) finished back-to-back in 42nd and 43rd.

Competing for the second straight year, Darelius represented the Retriever women on the 1-meter board.  The sophomore scored 204.25 to finish 34th out of 51 divers.

The 2014 NCAA Zone "A" Diving meet continues on Tuesday with the women competing at the 3-meter height and the men taking to the 1-meter event.
