Refreshed Men's Basketball Hosts Giant-Killer Lehigh on Sunday Evening

Two teams playing their best basketball of the early stages of the season get together on Sunday, Dec. 28 as UMBC (2-9) hosts Lehigh (5-5) at the RAC Arena. The Retrievers have won two straight contests, while the Mountain Hawks have taken five of six.  Last season, LU nipped UMBC, 70-68, in Bethlehem, Pa. Tip-off time for the rematch is set for 5:05 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on Q1370 and streaming will be available on www.umbcretrievers.tv.

There will a UMBC Basketball drawstring backpack give-away for this game.

 

RETRIEVER UPDATE: UMBC shot better than 50 percent from the floor for the second consecutive game and held an explosive Kennesaw State squad to 15 second half points in a 66-53 victory on Dec. 20. Junior post Cody Joyce scored 21 points and grad. guard Wayne Sparrow (team-best 11.8 ppg) hit eight straight free throws down the stretch to seal the triumph. Freshman guard Jourdan Grant (11 pts., 5 rebs.,assists, 3 steals) stuffed the stat sheet and earned America East Rookie of the Week honors.

 

MOUNTAIN HAWK UPDATE:  Lehigh led for most of the game and shocked Arizona State 84-81 in triple overtime on Dec. 20 in Tempe. Freshman Kahron Ross, named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, scored 15 points and added a school record 14 assists in the game. Lehigh also defeated DePaul, 84-76, in Chicago on Nov. 26. Sophomore post Tim Kempton leads LU with 12.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest, while classmate guard Austin Price is just behind at 12.1 points per outing.

 

WHO'S UP NEXT:  UMBC completes non-conference play at home versus NJIT  on Jan. 2 before opening America East competition at home versus UMass Lowell on Jan. 7.
