Binghamton jumped on the Retrievers early, rattling off a 5-1 lead to open things up. UMBC would answer, thanks in large part to kills by Schmidt to cut the deficit to 6-4. Both teams would battle in the middle stages of the stanza, before a 10-0 run at the end of the set gave the Bearcats a 25-12 win.

UMBC would have the answer in the second. Both sides battled with neither team giving an inch. UMBC would take the lead, and Binghamton would answer. Leading 20-19, the Retrievers would put together a mini 3-0 run fueled by kills from sophomore Zoya Trendafilova (Sofia, Bulgaria/Elisaveta Bagyrana) to give them a 23-19 advantage. UMBC would close out the set, 25-21, and tie the match at 1-1.

The Bearcats came out swinging in the third and fourth sets. Binghamton took control early in the third and never looked back winning the set 25-16. The Retrievers would come out in the fourth and rally. However, every time UMBC got close, Binghamton had a counter. The Bearcats closed out the set 25-20, and the match 3-1.

Schmidt paced the attack with 17 kills for UMBC. She also added nine digs and one block in the contest. Trendafilova added a career high 15 kills in the match, posting eight digs as well.
