COMPLETE RESULTS
Baltimore, Md.—The UMBC swimming and diving teams opened the dual meet season with wins against Rider. The men took a 158-125 victory, while the women were 156-115 winners.
On the men's side, UMBC took both of the relays, with a win in the 200 medley and 400 free relay. Lauri Kaei (Harjumaa, Estonia/Tallinn Secondary Science), Leo Endres (Bamburg, Germany/Kaiser Heinrich Gymnasium), Andrew Schrantz (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot), and Trevor Doll (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) took the gold with a time of 1:33.86. Kaei, Doll, Gutzat, and Sporlein took a victory in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:09.12.
Gregor Sporlein (Bamburg, Germany/Clavius Gymnasium) was a three time winner on the day, earning first in the 200 free (1:40.60), the 50 free (21.10), and the 100 free (46.09). Luca Santinelli (Via Alfleri, Italy/Liceo Scientifico) and Miles Ruttan (Ottowa, Ontario/John McCrae)each picked up a victory on the day. Santinelli won the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.69, while Ruttan won the 200 back in a time of 1:54.36.
Freshman Philip Adejumo (Elkridge, Md./Howard) earned his first collegiate victory in the 200 fly, winning in 1:58.12. Andrew McKissick (Ellicott City, Md./Mount St. Joeseph's) took home first place in the 1000 free with a time of 9:49.51. Nikola Trajkovic (Zrenjanin, Serbia/Zrenjaninska Gimnazija) was a winner in the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.74. Gutzat picked up the final win with a 500 free victory (4:40.54).
Ryan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) took home a win on the boards in the 1 meter dive. Green earned a score of 276.15 for the Retrievers.
On the women's end, The Retrievers took first in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Lauren Day (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), Amanda Day (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood), Emily Escobedo (New Rochelle, N.Y./Maria Regina), and Kristie Langford (Port Hope, Ontario/CDCI West) won with a time of 1:48.
Brenda Rhodes kicked things off in the individual competitions. Rhodes won the 1000 free with a time of 10:33.95. Stephanie Romano (Arlington, Va./Yorktown/Towson) was the winner of the 500 free with a time of 5:10.92, out-touching Rhodes but one second.
Alissa Caulfield (Ellicott City, Md./Mount de Sales) was a three time winner on the day. Caulfield won the 200 free (1:56.14), 50 free (24.73), and 100 free (53.33).
Lauren Day picked up two individual wins in the 100 back and 200 back. Day won the 100 back in a time of 59.53, and the 200 in a time of 2:11.11. Emily Escobedo won the 100 breast for UMBC. Escobedo touched the wall at 1:05.36, while also winning the 200 IM in a time of 2:09. Hannah Sutherland (Kingston, Ontario/Holy Cross Secondary)was the last winner of the day. Sutherland took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.89. Day was a winner in the 100 fly with a time of 59.07.
Caulfield, Hadden, Atkinson, and Langford took the gold in the final event, the 400 free relay. The team touched the wall in a time of 3:37.09.
Coco Darelius (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took home a win on the 1 and 3 meter boards, with a score of 261.60 and 228.37 respectively.
The Retrievers return to the pool on Wednesday, October 15, when they travel to Navy. The meet with the Midshipmen is set for 4:00 p.m.
