FARMVILLE,VA. – Just hours after a
dramatic walk-off win against Seton Hall, the UMBC softball team
(1-3) was shut out by St. John's, 7-0, on Saturday evening at
Lancer Field.
Red Storm starter Ashley Beza (1-3) yielded only two hits and
allowed a total of only three Retrievers to reach base, while
striking out six batters over seven innings.

Ferguson (North East, Md./North East/Cecil CC) took the
loss (0-2) for UMBC, allowing four earned runs in 2.1 innings of
work. At the plate, Ferguson recorded one of two hits
for the Retrievers.
Erin Burner did the biggest damage for St. John's (1-6), hitting
a grand slam in the bottom of the third to give the Red Storm a 5-0
lead.
UMBC returns to the diamond next Friday to take on Wright State
and Hamton at the Charleston Southern Tournament in Charleston,
S.C. The Retrievers face the Raiders at 9 a.m. and then
return to face the Pirates at 1 p.m.
