Teaneck, N.J.—Senior forward Levi
Houapeu (Germantown, Md./Watkins Mill) scored his seventh
goal of the season, but visiting UMBC (4-3-0) dropped a 2-1
decision at Fairleigh Dickinson (4-3-0) on Sunday night.
Houapeu's successful penalty kick occurred in the
56th minute and shaved the FDU lead to 2-1.
However, the Retrievers were unable to put any additional shots on
goal and had their two-game winning streak halted.
FDU scored in the sixth minute when Retriever sophomore
netminder Phil
Saunders (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) did not control a
free kick and the Knights' Samson Malihani knocked in the rebound
as UMBC allowed the first goal of the game for the fifth
consecutive contest.
The Knights doubled their lead in the
50th minute when Malihani headed in a free
kick.
Saunders made a season-high seven saves as FDU outshot UMBC,
16-9.
The Retrievers open America East Conference play at home on
Saturday, Oct. 2 when they entertain Binghamton.
