SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.—The UMBC volleyball team suffered two
defeats in the final day of the Seton Hall Invitational, falling to
Western Michigan, 3-0, and Northeastern, 3-0, Saturday.
In the first match, senior Sabrina Hoeks
(Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) led the Retrievers and was
named to the All-Tournament team with 14 kills and 11 digs, but it
was not enough as Western Michigan defeated UMBC, 25-19, 25-20 and
25-16.
Freshman Hallie
Carter (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) had a UMBC season-high
21 digs, while fellow freshman Mallory
McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/St. Mary's Academy) had a
season-high 29 assists.
The Broncos outhit the Retrievers .173 to .083 and had eight
blocks to UMBC's three.
In the second match, Northeastern's Britney Brown was two digs
shy of a triple-double as the Huskies defeated UMBC, 25-18, 27-25
and 25-12.
Hoeks recorded her third double-double of the tournament with 12
kills and 10 digs, while Carter had a game-high 18 digs.
The Retrievers return to action Tuesday at Georgetown at 7
p.m.
