SOUTH ORANGE, N.J.--The UMBC volleyball team dropped its first
match of the Seton Hall Inviational to the host Pirates, 3-0,
Friday night. After dropping the first two sets 25-21 and 25-6, the
Retrievers (4-6) prevailed in the third, 25-23, before falling in
the fourth, 25-21.
"I was happy with the way we fought back in the third after
really not playing well in the first two sets," head coach Ian
Blanchard said. "But we made too many errors tonight and that's
what cost us the match."
Senior Sabrina Hoeks
(Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) led the Retrievers with 12
kills and 13 digs, her third double-double of the season.
Seton Hall out hit UMBC, .277 to .053, and outdug the
Retrievers, 87-61.
Sarah Osmun led the Pirates with 19 kills.
The Retrievers return to action Saturday for the final day of
the Seton Hall Tournament. UMBC faces off with Western Michigan at
12:30 p.m. followed by a matchup with Northeastern at 3 p.m.
