Women's Lacrosse Breaks Skid, Cruises Past Fresno State, 18-3, Friday Night

BALTIMORE - The UMBC women's lacrosse team scored five goals within the first minutes and never looked back as it defeated Fresno State, 18-3, to snap a three-game losing streak Friday at UMBC Stadium. With the win, the Retrievers improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 0-3.

Senior Amanda Gable (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) was named the America East Player of the Game after scoring the first two goals of the contest and added three in a row minutes later to bring the score to 9-0 with just less than eight minutes gone in the first half.

Junior Erika Braerman (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and sophomore Bria Phillips (Davidsonville, Md./Coronado (Calif.)) each earned hat tricks while adding three assists and junior Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) tailed two goals.

Sophomore Emily Coady (Westminster, Md./Westminster) added three points (1 goal, 2 assists), while juniors Meagan Linkous (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) and Kristen Milligan (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake), sophomore Alicia Krause (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron/Duquesne) and freshman Lindsay Cox (High Bridge, N.J./Voorhees) also tickled the twine for the Retrievers. Junior Carrie Paris (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) and freshman Kerianne Allen (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) each added an assist.

UMBC outshot the Bulldogs, 33-6, and earned 18 draw controls to Fresno State's five. In addition, UMBC 20-11 in ground balls.

Senior Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) earned the win, making one save and allowing no goals in 23:34 of action. Katie Wilbur made nine saves for the Bulldogs.

The Retrievers return to action Wednesday when they host Monmouth at 4 p.m. at UMBC Stadium.
