Baseball Falls to Sacred Heart, 11-1, Saturday in Florida

LAKELAND, Fla. - The UMBC dropped the first game of its annual Spring Break trip to Florida Saturday, falling to Sacred Heart 11-1, at Henley Field in Lakeland, Fla.

Sacred Heart's Steve Tedesco hit a three-run home run in the bottom of third and had three hits and four RBI on the day.

Junior Rich Conlon (Vienna, Va./James Madison) scored freshman Aaron Brill (Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) on a RBI single to right in the top of the third for the Retrievers' only run.

UMBC (0-5) senior starter Ed Bach (Columbia, Md./Atholton) (0-2) pitched four innings, allowing six while allowing four runs. Sophomore Luke DiBlasi (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington), in one his best outings as a Retriever, struck out two in an inning of relief. Sacred Heart (3-6) starter Jared Balbach (2-0) struck out six in seven innings of work, allowing one unearned run.

 

The Retrievers continue their Spring Break trip Sunday when they face Bucknell at 5 p.m.
