Gilliam Nets 21 Points and Adds Seven Steals, But Binghamton Defeats UMBC, 81-61

Sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam (Columbia, Md.) was UMBC's America East Player of the Game, leading the Retrievers (3-25, 2-13) with 21 points and adding a career-high seven steals.

Binghamton has won seven of the eight meetings between the two teams in Vestal. They were led by reserve guard Dylan Talley, who hit 11 of 16 shots from the floor in a 25-point effort.

UMBC allowed the Bearcats to run wild in the first half, as the hosts hit 17 of 32 shots (53 percent) and pounded the Retrievers on the glass, 23-12. Binghamton got out to an 8-0 lead before Gilliam hit UMBC's first field goal, a three-pointer at the 15:39 mark. UMBC trailed, 19-12 after an Adrian Satchell field goal at the 11:42 mark, but the Bearcats proceeded on an 18-6 run to take a 37-18 lead with 6:42 remaining. The hosts led, 46-29, at intermission.

The Retrievers could get no closer than 15 points out in the second half.

UMBC completes the regular season at New Hampshire on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
