Late Albany Goal Sinks Women's Soccer, 1-0

Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y.—Albany forward Shayla Bergeron's goal in the 88th minute broke a scoreless tie and gave the host Great Danes (8-6-2, 3-1-2 AE) a 1-0 victory over UMBC (2-13-1, 1-6-0 AE) in America East women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Varsity Field.

Bergeron took a pass from forward Despina Psomopoulos and went in all alone against UMBC freshman goalie Lauren Kadet (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas). The Great Dane sophomore unleashed a hard shot from the middle that Kadet stopped with her right leg, but Bergeron knocked in her own rebound with just 2:02 remaining in regulation to seal the outcome.

Kadet equaled her career high with 11 saves, matching her total from her collegiate debut at Drexel. The Great Danes outshot the Retrievers, 32-3.

Kadet and Psomopoulos were named the America East Players of the Game.

The Retrievers conclude their season on Thursday, when they visit America East rival Hartford for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
