Volleyball Rallies From Down 2-1 to Defeat New Hampshire, 3-2

DURHAM, N.H.—The UMBC volleyball team was down 2-1 to New Hampshire Saturday afternoon, but rallied to win the fourth and fifth sets, 25-20 and 15-8, to improve to 7-12 on the season and 3-2 in the America East.

 

In the fifth and decisive set, the Retrievers hit .412 with seven kills and no errors, while holding the Wildcats (7-13, 2-3 AEC) to a .000 hitting percentage.

 

Junior Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) led the Retrievers with 45 assists and a UMBC season-high 30 digs, while senior Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills) hit a UMBC season-high 20 kills with 16 digs.

 

Sophomore Ali Loynachan (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair) hit a team-high .320 with 11 kills and 18 digs, while freshman Ali Goc (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate) hit 14 kills and recorded eight digs.

 

The Retrievers return to action Sunday as they play at Providence at 1:30 p.m.
