Volleyball Controls Hartford, 3-0, Sunday

BALTIMORE—The UMBC volleyball team hit a season-high .387 on its way to defeating Hartford, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-21 Sunday at the RAC. With the win, the Retrievers improve to 6-12 and 2-2 in the America East, while the Hawks fall to 5-15 and 0-3 in conference play.

 

The Retrievers hit an outstanding .528 in the first set, paced by freshman Ali Goc (Oshawa, Ontario, Canada/R.S. McLaughlin Collegiate), who hit seven kills on eight swings and senior Sabrina Hoeks (Olympia, Wash./AG West Black Hills), who had six kills and eight digs.

 

Both Goc and Hoeks finished with double-doubles, with Goc recording 15 kills and 13 digs, while Hoeks had 11 kills and 14 digs.

 

Sophomore Ali Loynachan (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair) hit a team-high .529 with 10 kills and just one error, while junior Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) led the team with a game-high 39 assists.

 

The Retrievers hit 46 kills to the Hawks 29, while they out-dug Hartford, 49-32.

 

UMBC returns to action Saturday when they play at America East rival New Hampshire at 2 p.m.
