Box Score VILLANOVA, Pa. - The UMBC volleyball team fell to Villanova, 3-0, in the first day of the Villanova Classic Friday night. With the loss, the Retrievers fall to 2-5, while the Wildcats improved to 6-2.
Both teams did not hit very effectively as the Retrievers hit .103, while the Wildcats hit .142. The key to the match was serving, with Villanova hitting nine aces to UMBC's one.
Sophomore Iman Kennedy (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) led the Retrievers, hitting .357 with eight kills, while freshman Ali Loynachan (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Sinclair) added seven. Junior Pam Jarrett (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Pius X) earned a game-high 18 digs.
The Wildcats were led by Maggie Mergen, who hit .333 with eight kills and Kim Maroon added with 14 digs.
The Retrievers return to action tomorrow as they face George Washington at 1 p.m. and Princeton at 5 p.m. in the final day of the Villanova Classic.
