Women's Lacrosse Picks Up Big America East Victory Over Albany, 9-6

ALBANY, N.Y. - The UMBC women's lacrosse team (8-7, 3-2 AEC) picked up a big America East Conference victory over Albany (7-7, 3-2 AEC) Saturday afternoon at Fallon Field, defeating the Great Danes by a score of 9-6. The teams are now tied for second place in the league standings, a half game behind Boston University and a half game ahead of Vermont and New Hampshire. The top four teams will advance to the America East Tournament.

Albany led, 2-1, midway through the first half, but the Retrievers finished the period with three unanswered goals to lead, 4-2, at intermission.

Junior midfielder Amanda Gable (Glenelg, Md./Mount Airy) scored just 30 seconds into the second stanza to put UMBC on top, 5-2, before Albany scored twice to pull to within one at 5-4 with 16:48 remaining.

But the Retrievers rattled off three straight in the next 5:35 of play to go up by a game-high four goals, 8-4, then held on as the Great Danes tallied two of the final three goals of the game. Senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) provided an insurance goal with 1:17 remaining to give UMBC the 9-6 victory.

Dorr and sophomore midfielder Amanda Pappas (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) each tallied three points on two goals and an assist apiece. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Stodter (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) also scored twice.

Albany attack Kayla Best led the Great Danes with three points on two goals and an assist.

UMBC junior goalie Kate Quick (Phoenix, Md./Maryvale Prep) made nine saves, while Albany keeper Katie Neer stopped six shots.

The Retrievers return to action on Saturday, April 18, when they host Le Moyne in their home finale.
