WASHINGTON, D.C. - Four Retrievers notched hat tricks to lead the UMBC women's lacrosse team (1-0) to a convincing 19-1 victory over Howard (0-1) Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
The Retrievers scored the first 16 goals of the game and led 12-0 at halftime. Senior midfielder Kara Dorr (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) got the scoring started with a free-position goal just 1:19 into the game and had three in the first half.
Howard finally got on the board with 14:03 left in the game when attack Sakita Holley found the back of the net.
But the Retrievers responded with three more goals in the final six minutes of action to complete the victory.
In all, eight Retrievers scored a goal and 13 recorded at least one point.
Dorr finished with a game-high four goals and five points, both career highs.
