VESTAL, N.Y.—The UMBC women's soccer team (2-12-1, 1-5-0 AE) fell to America East rival Binghamton (7-6-1, 4-2-0 AE) by a score of 2-0 Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Binghamton midfielder Amanda Casares ripped a shot from the left side that UMBC sophomore goalie Mo Van Vlerah (Ijamsville, Md./Northwest) knocked down, but forward Emily Cirillo tapped in the rebound to give the Bearcats the 1-0 lead just 2:29 into the contest.
In the 58th minute, Binghamton back Stefani Knopick added an insurance goal when she headed in a corner kick from back Dani Raske.
Van Vlerah made 10 saves, while Binghamton keepers Jen McEachron and Erin Iman shared time in the net but were not forced to make a save, as the Bearcats owned a 26-4 advantage on shots.
The Retrievers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 22, when they host America East rival New Hampshire in their home finale at UMBC Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
