Box Score VESTAL, N.Y. - Sophomore Alyssa Lang (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) led all hitters with 20 kills as the Retrievers (11-7, 3-0 AE) extended their winning streak to five matches with a 3-2 victory at America East rival Binghamton (10-9, 2-1 AE) Friday evening at the Bearcats' West Gym.
In the fifth and decisive set, UMBC outhit Binghamton, .278-.053, en route to the 25-23, 25-22, 25-27, 17-25, 15-9 win.
"This is a great win for us," head coach Ian Blanchard said. "We executed really well in the first and final sets. It was a complete team effort."
Senior Kira Giles (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Glenlawn) was one of three Retrievers with double-doubles. She recorded 23 assists and 14 digs and moved into third place all-time on UMBC’s career assists chart with 3,055.
Senior Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) earned her team-best sixth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while sophomore Allie Spaay (Kenosha, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) notched her third with 35 assists and 10 digs.
Freshman Naomi Bush (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) hit a team-high .310 with 13 kills against just four errors on 29 swings.
The return of freshman Ali Loynachan (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair), who missed the last five weeks with mono, also provided a boost for the Retrievers, as she tallied eight kills.
"She gives a strong sense of physicality and it was great to have her back," Blanchard said.
The Retrievers return to action on Sunday when they visit America East rival Albany.
