BALTIMORE-- The UMBC volleyball was defeated by Albany, 3-0, Friday night at the RAC. The Retrievers dropped to 15-8 and 4-2 in America East play, while the Great Danes improved to 14-8, 6-0 in conference action.
Albany controlled the entire match, outhitting UMBC .237 to 0.42, while hitting three more service aces and stuffing three more blocks than the Retrievers.
Kamisha Kellam led the Great Danes, hitting .364 with 11 kills, while five-time America East Setter of the Week Brooke Stanley added 30 assists in Albany's 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16 win.
Freshman Alyssa Lang (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) led UMBC with nine kills, while junior Ashley Oscars led the team with 10 digs. Redshirt freshman Sarah Hill (Richmond, Va./L.C. Bird) hit well for the Retrievers, adding eight kills against only two errors.
"Sarah Hill played very well and brought a lot of energy for us tonight," said head coach Ian Blanchard.
The Retrievers return to action Sunday, as they conclude this home-and-home with the Great Danes at 2 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
