BALTIMORE—Binghamton defender Dani Raske scored just 10 minutes into the game, and that was all the Bearcats (5-4-1, 1-1-0 AEC) would need as they downed the UMBC women's soccer team (2-10-0, 1-1-0 AEC) by a score of 1-0 Thursday afternoon at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
At the 10:15 mark, Raske one-timed the ball into the top-left corner of the net from 25 yards out to give her team the lead.
The Retrievers' best opportunity came in the 63rd minute when sophomore forward Morgan Warrington (Magnolia, Del./St. Thomas Moore Prep) sent a header off a free kick toward the net, but Binghamton goalie Jen McEachron came up with the save.
UMBC goalie Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) recorded three saves, while McEachron stopped six shots for the Bearcats.
Binghamton outshot UMBC, 12-10. The teams were even on corner kicks with two apiece.
The Retrievers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 5, when they hit the road to take on America East rival Hartford at 2 p.m.
