HARTFORD, Conn.-- The UMBC volleyball team won its third straight match Friday night at Hartford, 3-0, to improve to 13-6 on the season and 3-0 in America East play. The Hawks dropped to 5-15 and 0-2 in conference play.
Redshirt freshman Sarah Hill (Richmond, Va./L.C. Bird) led the Retrievers with a .400 hitting percentage with seven kills against only one error. Junior Ashley Oscars (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty) had a team-high nine kills and three service aces as the Retrievers downed the Hawks 25-21, 25-17 and 25-16.
UMBC held Hartford to a .053 hitting percentage for the match and hit only 14 errors against the Hawks' 27, while also controlling the serve, nine aces to the Hawks' one. The Retrievers' best set was the second where they hit 13 kills against four errors for a .290 hitting percentage.
The Retrievers return to America East action Sunday when they play at Stony Brook at 1 p.m.
