Women's Soccer Falls to Hartford, 1-0

BALTIMORE- The UMBC women's soccer team (1-10-2, 0-4-0 AEC) dropped its fifth straight game, 1-0, to Hartford at UMBC Soccer Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

Hartford midfielder Kacey Busque scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a run through the penalty area and placed a shot past UMBC junior goalkeeper Christine Bacinski (Hampstead, Md./Mount de Sales) in the 80th minute.

With three minutes to go, the Retrievers had their best opportunity for a goal when freshman forward Ashley Singer (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) broke free off of a pass from junior midfielder Kali Schwartz (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown South), but Hartford goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook beat Singer to the ball.

Cook made four saves for her fifth shutout of the season, while Bacinski recorded six for the Retrievers.

The Hawks out-shot UMBC 13-10, while holding a 4-2 advantage on corners.

The Retrievers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Boston University at 1:00 p.m.
