-The UMBC women's soccer team (4-9-1, 0-4-0 AEC) dropped its third straight with a 3-1 loss at America East rival Albany (5-9-1, 2-3-0 AEC) Sunday afternoon. The Retrievers remain winless in conference play.
Diana Barrera scored twice for the Great Danes, who have won three of their last five matches. The forward started the scoring at the 42:10 mark with a shot over the keeper off a pass from Ashley Tirabassi. Albany built a two-goal advantage 13 minutes into the second half when Tirabassi put home a left-side shot, with the assist from Jaclyn Rosada.
The Retrievers cut the lead in half less than seven minutes later on a penalty kick off the foot of sophomore midfielder Kali Schwartz, her third goal of the season. But Barrera tallied an insurance goal at 82:54, scoring off a rebound of her own shot.
Senior goalie Robin Babaris stopped nine shots in the loss for the Retrievers, while Ashley Nuessle earned the victory for the Great Danes, making six saves.
Albany out-shot UMBC, 16-14, and held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The Retrievers return to action Thursday, Oct. 12, when they return home to take on America East foe Binghamton at 4 p.m. at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
