Women's Soccer Blanked Again, 5-0 by Hartford

-The UMBC women's soccer team (4-8-1, 0-3-0 AEC) was shut out for the fifth time in six games Thursday evening, falling to America East foe Hartford, 5-0, at Al-Marzook Field. The Hawks improve to 5-8-0 overall and remain perfect in conference play at 3-0-0.

Meagan Riemer scored two goals and added two assists for Hartford, which won its third straight game.

The Hawks got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute when Riemer sent a cross into the box from the right side of the goal that UMBC sophomore keeper Catie Bukowski tried to intercept. She dove for the ball but could only get a piece of it, and the result was a wide-open net for Brittany Black on the left side.

Hartford's second goal came just 26 seconds later as Laura Guigli stole the ball and dribbled through the midfield, finding Riemer open in front of the goal at the top of the box. Riemer turned and fired a shot past Bukowski to put the Hawks up 2-0.

Riemer tallied her second goal of the night in the 42nd minute. After dribbling up the field unmarked, she rocketed a shot from a tough angle that clanged off the inside of the far post and into the net, giving Hartford a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

Hartford's fourth score came as the result of an own goal in the 59th minute. Sara Flowers was attacking from the left side along the end line and crossed a ball into the box that was misplayed by a UMBC defender and kicked into the goal.

Maja Siosteen capped off the scoring in the 71st minute. From the midfield, Riemer sent Siosteen on a run up the right side, and she buried a shot inside the far post for the 5-0 victory.

Hartford controlled the pace of the game throughout and finished with a 17-3 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

Bukowski tallied three saves in the first 47:11 but came out due to injury after allowing three goals. Senior Robin Babaris replaced her and allowed two goals while recording three saves in the final 42:49. Liz Cook played 75:45 in the net for Hartford and finished with one save before Becky Alaimo made her collegiate debut, playing the final 14:15 between the pipes without facing a shot.

The Retrievers have lost six of their last seven games and have yet to score a goal in three America East contests. Their next opportunity comes Sunday, Oct. 8 at Albany. Game time is 1 p.m.
