Baltimore, Md.—Tenth-ranked Boston University posted its 12th shutout of the season as the Terriers (13-3-2, 6-0-1 America East) blanked UMBC (4-12-1, 0-7-0), 3-0 before 165 fans at UMBC Soccer Stadium.
The Retrievers have dropped six straight contests.
Terrier freshman forward Farrell McClernon scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute. She collected a service from Corie Halasz and scored from 11 yards out to post her team-high seventh goal of the year. Boston added a goal late in the half as senior back Erica Lee won the battle for a loose ball in front of the UMBC net and drilled home a shot from six yards away in the 41st minute.
Senior forward Lauren Erwin added the third goal at 51:27, capitalizing on a UMBC turnover. She received Lauren Basham's short cross and scored inside the left post from eight yards away.
Boston is now 4-0 against UMBC and has shutouts over the Retrievers in the last three meetings. They outshot UMBC, 16-4, including 12-2 in the first half. UMBC senior netminder Robin Babaris was credited with five saves, while Terrier goalkeepers Stephanie Dreyer and Christine Reuter did not make any saves.
UMBC plays the season finale at home on Sunday, October 22 vs. Maine.
