MEN'S SOCCER DOMINATES, BUT FALLS TO NIAGARA, 3-2

Annapolis, MD-Hopefully, the UMBC men's soccer team got all of its bad luck out of its system in a 48-hour period. After outshooting Georgia Southern, 18-6, and losing 3-0 on Friday, the Retrievers bombarded Niagara with 32 shots, yet came away on the short end of a 3-2 score.

The Retrievers led the the game for 55 minutes of play, and first half goals by freshman forward Kevin Gnatiko and junior linemate David Feazell gave UMBC a 2-1 lead which they held until late in the second half. But Niagara scored at the 74:16 mark, then got the game winner from Mark Spooner on a two-on-one break at 77:22 to give the Purple Eagles their first lead of the game. It was an advantage they would not relinquish.

Niagara netminders had to make 15 saves against UMBC,while Retriever goalie Andy Marchica managed 3 saves. UMBC also had a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.

It is the first 0-2 start that the men's soccer team has suffered in 15 seasons under Head Coach Pete Caringi.
