FIRST PLACE MAINE SURVIVES SCARE FROM RETRIEVERS, PREVAIL 63-55 IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

The UMBC women's basketball team (8-19, 3-15) threw a scare into first place Maine (20-8, 16-2), but the Black Bears prevailed, 63-55 at Alfond Arena.

UMBC freshman post Amanda Robinson continued her recent surge, as she paced UMBC with 19 points, garnered 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots. Sophomores Heather Luttrell and Courtney Doughman added 9 each for UMBC.

The Retrievers trailed, 36-23 at intermission, but came out on a 9-0 run to trim their deficit to five points early in the second frame. UMBC would hold Maine to 8 second half field goals and closed to 58-54 late in the game, but the Black Bears made crucial free throws down the stretch to stave off the upset.

UMBC shot a solid 46.2% from the floor for the contest as they will now prepare for the America East Tournament, beginning with a first round contest on Wednesday night in Hartford, Connecticut.
