WOMEN'S SOCCER EDGED, 1-0, BY HOST BOSTON UNIVERSITY, BUT CLINCH SPOT IN AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT

Boston, MA—The UMBC women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to host Boston University this afternoon at Nickerson Field, but clinched a spot in next weekend's America East Tournament when Binghamton edged Hartford, 1-0.

The Terriers gained no worse than a share of the regular season title and will host the quarter and semi-final rounds of the tournament.

The Retrievers (9-7-1, 3-3-1) will either be the #5 seed, where they currently reside in the league standings, or they could slip to sixth with a loss at Maine and a New Hampshire win over visiting Albany this weekend.

UMBC made the America East Tournament in their first league season of 2003, but did not qualify last season.

The Terriers improved to 10-4-4, 6-0-1 with the victory. The hosts scored the lone goal of the game at the 57:55 mark when Lauren Erwin scored an unassisted tally.

The Retrievers managed just a pair of shots and were outshot by the Terriers, 18-2. UMBC freshman netminder Catie Bukowski kept her side in the game with eight saves.
