UMBC WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES BINGHAMTON 1-1 IN RAIN-SHORTENED CONTEST

VESTAL, N.Y. – UMBC women's soccer (9-5-1, 3-1-1 AE) and Binghamton (7-6-3, 3-2-1 America East) traded first-half goals before on-the-field officials ended Thursday's women's soccer game in the 71st minute as rain battered the playing field. The contest, played at West Gym Field, will be officially recorded as a 1-1 tie, keeping the two teams tied for third place in the America East standings.

Binghamton's senior midfielder Lauren Massey opened the scoring just 5:20 into the game, finishing an 18-yard shot into the upper left corner. Massey collected a loose ball after a Bearcats corner kick and picked the corner from the top of the box for her second tally of the season.

The Retrievers scored the equalizer at the 24:34 mark on a 30-yard free kick off the foot of junior forward Amanda DiCarlo. It was her 10th goal of the season.

The two teams continued to play with the score knotted at one until it was halted at the 70:20 mark. Binghamton owned a 15-7 margin in shots and an 8-3 margin on corners at the conclusion of play.

Catie Bukowski stopped 10 shots for UMBC while junior keeper Kristie Bowers made five saves for Binghamton.

UMBC returns to action at home for senior day against Vermont at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 16.
