PENDER SCORES 30 POINTS, BUT WOMEN'S BASKETBALL IS NIPPED AT STONY BROOK, 68-66

Stony Brook's Danyelle Ingram hit a layup with four seconds to play, as the host Seawolves (3-7, 1-0) nipped UMBC (5-5, 0-1), 68-66, in the America East Conference opener for both squads. UMBC junior guard Matea Pender had a brilliant game in defeat. She scored 30 points, hitting 7 of 15 from the floor, 6 of 8 from behind the arc, and 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Stony Brook led, 31-27 at halftime, but the lead changed hands several times in the second half. UMBC hit 19 of 39 shots (48.7%) from the floor, but committed 22 turnovers. Brittnie Hughes and Heather Luttrell scored 12 points apiece for UMBC, and Sharrie Rohde added 8 points and 4 assists.
