WOMEN'S HOOPS KNOCKS OFF BINGHAMTON, 50-46

Vestal, NY--Junior guard Matea Pender scored 19 points, and sophomore guard Brittnie Hughes came off the bench to score 14, as UMBC (7-8, 2-4 America East) edged host Binghamton (4-11, 3-3 AEC), 50-46 at the BU Events Center.

The Retrievers halted a brief two-game losing streak, while Binghamton's win streak was stopped at three.

UMBC held a 24-14 lead, but the Bearcats battled back, and after a few lead changes, BU hit a pair of free throws to knot the game at 43-all with 3:50 remaining. The game would then become a free throw contest, as neither team hit from the field after that point. It was Hughes who was able to seal the win for UMBC, as she hit a pair of free throws with 17 seconds left to give UMBC their final margin of victory.

Heather Luttrell added 10 points for UMBC.
