WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CAN'T HOLD OFF ALBANY, FALL 52-46 TO THE GREAT DANES

Albany, N.Y. - Maree Jones scored 16 points to lead UAlbany as the Great Danes defeated America East Conference rival UMBC, 52-46 in the Recreation and Convocation Center on Wednesday evening.

UMBC (6-8, AE 1-4) was up by as many as five, 40-35, late in the second half before Jen Schumacher hit a three to spark a UAlbany comeback. Danielle Hutcheson hit one-of-two from the foul line and followed with a long jumper from the right side to bring the Great Danes (7-7, AE 2-3) within one, 42-41. Schumacher converted her fourth trey of the night from the left wing to put UAlbany back on top, 44-42.Jones, who shot 8-of-10 from the free throw line, scored UAlbany's final points from the charity stripe. 

Sophomore forward Sharri Rohde led all players with a career high 18 points while junior guard Matea Pender recorded a double-double for the Retrievers, tallying 13 points and 11 boards. UMBC hit just 4 of 23 shots from behind the arc and committed 18 turnovers.
