MARSHALL UPENDS WOMEN'S SOCCER, 2-0

Baltimore, MD—Marshall University's Mollie Lee and Jenna Greenwood scored within a two-minute span in the second half to lead the Thundering Herd (3-4-3) to a 2-0 victory over host UMBC (4-4-0) in a non-conference contest at UMBC Soccer Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Lee collected a ball just inside the box on the left side of the cage. She arched a left-footed shot over UMBC netminder Robin Babaris and into the upper far corner of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the 58:14 mark. At 60:06, Marshall forward Katie Watson made a nice run down the right wing and cross to the ball to a waiting Greenwood, whose header from 8 yards out beat Babaris to double the Herd's lead.

The Retrievers tried to rally, outshooting MU, 7-3, in the second half, but netminder Ashleigh Woods made six of her seven saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Babaris made 3 saves for UMBC.

UMBC opens America East Conference play next Friday at Maine.
