WOMEN'S SOCCER DOWNS MOUNT ST. MARY'S, 2-0

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Kersha Walker scored two goals to lead UMBC past Mount St. Mary's 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday.

Walker tallied the game-winner with 4:27 remaining in the first half and then added a second marker in the second frame to give the Retrievers (3-2) their 11th victory against the Mount (1-4) in the all-time series.

The two squads battled for 40 minutes before the Retrievers took the advantage and held on for its third win of the year. With the squad's only shot in the first half, Kelly Fiorani dished the ball to Walker from right to left into the netting at the 40:33 mark.

After Mount St. Mary's missed a clear in the second stanza, Walker grabbed the ball and found the net at 81:26 to give the Retrievers a 2-0 lead.

The Mount missed several scoring opportunities in the game, registering seven of its eight shots on goal. Senior Nicole Di'Angelo's shots in the 34th minute and the 65th minute were both turned away by Robin Babaris. Sophomore Colleen Feeney's shot in the 85th minute was the final scoring threat for Mount St. Mary's, but Babaris made the stop.

Babaris made seven saves to record her second straight shutout. Margaret Pyzik made five stops in the loss.
