Boston, MA--The top-seeded Boston University Terriers (6-1-1 America East) scored in the tenth minute and added an insurance goal in the 77th minute to prevail, 2-0, and clinch the top seed in the America East Tournament.
BU's Roland Erlichman scored at the 9:29 mark, but UMBC would match the Terriers shot for shot throughout the game. In the 75th minute, BU netminder Chad Comroe stopped a point blank shot by Derek McElligott and the Terriers got the insurance marker less than two minutes later.
Shots were even at 10-10 for the game, as Comroe had to make six saves. UMBC's Andy Marchica had four for the Retrievers. Corner kicks were even at five apiece.
For the moment, the Retrievers remain in sixth place, but Stony Brook can go ahead of the Retrievers with a win over Maine tomorrow. Vermont moved a pair of points ahead of UMBC with a 1-1 tie at Binghamton.
