Brooklyn Heights, NY--Senior guard Shalayna Johnson hit 7 three-point goals en route to 25 points as UMBC completed a two-game sweep of host St. Francis (NY), 68-48 in an NEC contest. The win was UMBC's third straight and the Retrievers improved to 6-9 overall, 3-3 in the NEC.
Johnson and senior guard Jessie Brown combined for 23 first half points as UMBC raced to a 31-19 intermission lead. The Retrievers scored the first eight points of the second half to lead by 20, but the Terriers trimmed the deficit to 46-35 with 9:15 to play. But UMBC went on a 13-4 run to regain a 20-point margin and they coasted to the victory.
UMBC hit just 34% from the floor, but buried 12 of 27 shots (44%) from behind the arc. Brown added 18 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, while sophomore forward Lara Seamon tied a career high with 12 points.
