Baltimore, MD - On a humid and overcast day at the UMBC Soccer Stadium, the Retrievers suffered a heartbreaking loss as they dropped the Northeast Conference season opener to Robert Morris (2-6, 1-0 NEC) in double-overtime, by a score of 1-0. Senior Lauren Meyer (Elizabethtown, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored on a penalty kick in the game's 102nd minute to seal the victory for the visiting Colonials.
Despite posting 23 shots, UMBC (3-5, 0-1 NEC) was unsuccessful in finding the back of the net. After three scoreless periods, a Retriever foul allowed Meyer to get a penalty kick into the left corner, past UMBC keeper Robin Babaris (Ontario, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat).
The Retrievers return to action on Sunday, September 29, when they host NEC rival St. Francis (PA) at 3:30 pm.
