WOMEN'S HOOPS FALLS, 56-38, AT MARYLAND

COLLEGE PARK, Md.- - The University of Maryland women's basketball team (5-4) cruised to a 56-38 victory over UMBC (2-5) Saturday at the Comcast Center's auxiliary gymnasium. Senior guard Terri Daniels (Ellicott City, Md.) led the Terps in victory with 12 points, while redshirt-junior Vicki Brick (Timonium, Md.) added 11.

Paced by nine first-half points from Daniels, Maryland fought-off a pesky Retriever team throughout the half before finally pulling away in the final eight minutes. Two buckets from freshman Charmaine Carr (Brandywine, Md.) and a jumper from senior Renneika Razor (New York, N.Y.) put the Terps up by 10 points, 27-17, at halftime.

The Terps extended their lead with a 21-3 run that began with 4:52 remaining in the first half and ended with a Brick 3-point basket with 12:50 left to play. The Terps, up by as much as 22 points in the second half, never trailed in the game and held UMBC to 38 points on the afternoon. The last time a Terrapin team held an opponent to under 40 points was last season on Nov. 23 at the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge against DePaul (54-36).

In the loss, UMBC's Millette Green led all scorers on the day with 15 points and also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
