BALTIMORE (Dec. 10) - Jennifer Mitchell scored a game-high 17 points, including three crucial three-pointers, to lead Loyola to a 55-41 victory over UMBC in women's basketball action Tuesday night at Reitz Arena.
The Greyhounds, who held a 28-21 half time lead, watched their 10 point cushion dwindle in the first seven minutes of the second half. The Retrievers outscored Loyola 12-4 in those first minutes to tie the score at 32 with the clock set at 13:39. The teams exchanged baskets for the next few minutes until 8:30 when the Greyhounds rallied on a 16-3, spurred by two three-point baskets from Mitchell to close out the game.
Mitchell shot 7-for-14 from the floor to lead Loyola, which shot 46% as a team. The Retrievers shot just 32.6% from the field. Shontrese Smith and Katie Netherton also added nine points apiece for the Greyhounds. Lindsay Cobb matched a career-high of seven assists as well as seven points.
For UMBC, Jessie Brown scored 16 points, 12 off of three point shots, and Anastaia Goncharova had 13. Lara Seamon grabbed a game-high seven boards.
Loyola improved to 4-3 overall while UMBC fell to 2-3.
