ROWLAND, RETRIEVERS BLANK ROBERT MORRIS, 2-0

Baltimore, MD-UMBC (7-4-2, 4-0-1 NEC) extended its unbeaten streak to six and its shutout streak to three as they blanked Robert Morris (4-7-1, 2-2 NEC), 2-0, in a Northeast Conference game played on the slick turf of UMBC Stadium.

Senior goalkeeper Brian Rowland recorded his sixth shutout of the season and 20th of his career, making six saves in difficult conditions.

The Retrievers grabbed an early 1-0 lead as Brandon Quaranta (Archbishop Curley HS/Baltimore, MD) on a beautiful sequence at the 12:43 mark. Midfielder Michael Joseph took a lead pass and hit linemate Alex Wilmot inside the box on the right wing. Wilmot's cross was run onto by Quaranta, who blasted a shot by RMU keeper Mike Ozdinec into the right corner of the net.

The Colonials outshot UMBC, 6-3, in the first half and Rowland kept UMBC in front with two point blank saves. The Retriever defense stiffened in the second half, and sophomore midfielder Steve Blakely scored the insurance goal on a freak play at 72:19. Blakely counterattacked down the left wing and let a shot go from 30 yards out. Ozdinec attempted to corral the hooking shot, but the slick ball glanced off his hands and into the net. It was Blakely's first career goal.

RMU outshot UMBC, 14-10, but could not dent the net vs. UMBC, which has only allowed four goals in its last nine games (6-1-2).
