RETRIEVER WOMEN'S SOCCER RALLIES FOR 3-1 WIN OVER LONG ISLAND

Baltimore, MD-The UMBC women's soccer team notched their fourth consecutive victory today with their 3-1 defeat of Long Island on a cold and windy day at the UMBC Soccer Stadium. Freshman forward Missy Moore scored a hat trick, including an incredible game-winner at the 80:06 mark. The Blackbirds would get on the board first, however, as UMBC (5-5, 4-2 NEC) turned the ball over in the goal box and LIU freshman forward Natalie Dart kicked it past Retriever junior goalkeeper Becky Hicock for a 1-0 lead. UMBC would respond, however, as Moore converted her second penalty kick in as many games after being hauled down by LIU freshman goalkeeper Amanda Nelson inside the goal box at 23:32. The Retrievers' talented freshman would strike again at 80:06 as she beat Nelson with an incredible reverse bicycle kick that flew into the lower righthand corner of the net. Moore's goal was set up by passes from senior midfielder Jamie Gerhart and junior forward Nicole Grinspoon. The third and final tally came off a UMBC corner kick that a Blackbird defender headed into her own net after Moore had redirected it. UMBC's win marked their fourth in a row in the conference. Hicock recorded five saves on the day for UMBC and Nelson stopped seven shots for LIU. The Retrievers outshot the Blackbirds 15-7. 1 2 F LIU 1 0 1 UMBC 1 2 3 Scoring-LIU- Dart, 3:35.
