Maggie Tien

Tien joins UMBC as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator after spending the past three seasons at Mount St. Mary's.

Initially the Director of Operations for two years, Tien earned a promotion to Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Originally from nearby Gaithersburg, Tien competed for Hood College and Washington Adventist as an undergraduate. As a senior for the Shock, she was an almost exclusive three-point threat, with 138 of her 159 attempts coming from beyond-the-arc. Her 30.4 shooting percentage from downtown helped guide Washington Adventist to an 18-12 mark during the 2019-2020 season.

Her career at Hood spanned two seasons, participating in 37 games with 34 starts. In her junior season with the Blazers, Tien ranked second on the team with 9.4 points and an average of 2.52 treys per contest. That season also saw her reach a career high of 20 points, going 7-for-14 from the floor in a game with Lebanon Valley.
