Maddie Gans began her role at UMBC in September of 2025.

An experienced athletic trainer with a strong background in sports medicine and rehabilitation, she most recently served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Valparaiso University, where she was instrumental in providing comprehensive care to the university's baseball and volleyball student-athletes since November 2023. Her responsibilities included organizing and submitting physicals, PPEs, and insurance claims, as well as assisting with the football and men's basketball teams. Ganz is committed to preventing and evaluating injuries in coordination with overseeing physicians and effectively communicating injury statuses to coaches.

Prior to her arrival at Valparaiso, she gained valuable experience as an Athletic Trainer Intern at Creighton University from July 2023 to October 2023. During this time, she was in charge of the men's and women's golf teams and the softball team. She played a key role in organizing and planning PPE assessments in collaboration with team physicians, managing and maintaining hot and cold whirlpool tubs, and creating rehabilitation plans and programs for athletes.

From January 2023 to May 2023, Ganz served as an Athletic Trainer at Edgewood High School in Ellettsville, IN. She worked closely with coaches to communicate athletes' conditions and provided on-field assessments for track & field, baseball, and softball athletes.

Ganz has also held multiple positions at Indiana University. From September to December 2022, she worked with the cross country and track & field teams, evaluating and recognizing spinal cord-related pathologies and injuries. In earlier roles at Indiana University, she assisted the football team, organized storage for the spring season, and performed various evaluations and rehabilitation programs for athletes.

Ganz holds a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois.
