Jonas Alger was hired as an assistant coach in September of 2026.
Alger is an emerging coach and player development specialist whose passion for the game has propelled him through some of the most respected college and professional basketball programs. With more than seven years of experience working with NBA players, NCAA Division I athletes, and elite youth prospects, he has established himself as a coach known for player development, strategic planning, and maximizing individual and team performance.
Alger most recently served as an Assistant Coach at Georgetown College, where he played an integral role in all aspects of the program, including player development, practice planning, scouting, film analysis, and game preparation. His work contributed to the program's success, including helping guide the team to an appearance in the NAIA National Championship Sweet 16 regional semifinal.
Prior to Georgetown College, Alger spent two seasons as a graduate assistant with the Tennessee Tech University men's basketball program. There, he specialized in player development, individual skill instruction, scouting, and film analysis using advanced platforms such as Synergy and Sportscode. He also mentored and supervised the student managerial staff, improving the program's operational efficiency and support structure.
A native of the highly competitive college basketball environment, Alger developed the foundation of his coaching career at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Head Student Manager under Hall of Fame coach John Calipari from 2019 to 2023. During his tenure, he worked closely with the coaching staff in several capacities, including player development, practice execution, statistical analysis, and day-to-day basketball operations. His time at Kentucky gave him firsthand exposure to championship-level standards and helped shape his philosophy as a coach and mentor.
Beyond the collegiate level, Alger gained valuable professional basketball experience with the Minnesota Timberwolves during the NBA Summer League from 2021 through 2025. As a team assistant, he supported practices, game operations, and player preparation while working alongside NBA personnel. He further expanded his knowledge of elite player development during an internship with Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, where he conducted on-court workouts with NBA, G League, EuroLeague, and NCAA athletes.
Alger earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, complemented by minors in Business Analytics and Athletic Coaching. A consistent Dean's List honoree, he has combined his business and analytical training with his basketball expertise to develop a modern, data-informed coaching approach. His accomplishments have also been recognized through honors such as the Silverwaves Media Rising Stars Award, the Governor's Scholar Program, and membership on the 2023 Managers Games Final Four team.
