Retriever alum Bill Kerr '17 was added to the men's soccer coaching staff in May of 2024.
"Bill has been dedicated to the coaching profession since he finished playing at UMBC," stated Adams. "He has an incredible work ethic, is a relentless recruiter, and has strong connections to the program as an alum. I couldn't be happier to bring Bill back to campus."
Kerr has spent four years as the assistant coach at nearby Division III Stevenson University. The Mustangs enjoyed great success during his time in Owings Mills, Maryland. Stevenson reached the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) semifinals twice and the team also appeared in the quarterfinals. In his first season in 2019, the squad reached the ECAC semifinals.
In addition to his new role at UMBC, Kerr is currently serving as an assistant coach at the Liverpool INT'L Academy of Maryland. His responsibilities there include working directly with the U16/U18 teams.
Prior to his tenure at Stevenson, Kerr honed his coaching skills at Lycoming from 2017 to 2019. In his role as an assistant coach, he was involved in various aspects of the team's operations, including recruiting, game-day coaching, and spring training. The squad won the MAC Conference championship in his first season and reached the championship game during his second campaign. He also took on the role of junior high school head coach at Williamsport Area High School in 2018, demonstrating his versatility and ability to work with different age groups.
Kerr started his collegiate playing career at Lycoming, becoming the first player in program history to earn First-Team All-American honors as a sophomore. He was also named the 2014 MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and named to the All-Conference First Team in his two seasons with the team. As a freshman, Kerr helped the Warriors to their first conference title and NCAA Tournament berth.
As a junior, Kerr transferred to UMBC, where he started 33 of the 34 games he saw action in over his two seasons. He helped the team earn a national ranking as a junior and a spot in the America East Conference semifinals.
A 2017 UMBC graduate, Kerr earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology.
