As a Sophomore (2022):

  • Appeared in 49 games, including 14 starts as UMBC’s ace of the pitching staff.
  • Finished second in the conference with a stingy 3.93 ERA.
  • Held opposing hitters to a .244 batting clip, which was good for fourth in the league.
  • Placed seventh in the AE in innings pitched (73.0) and strikeouts (69).
  • Picked up his first conference victory against Binghamton after allowing just five hits and a run over 6.0 outstanding innings on May 1.
  • Also recorded victories against Mount St. Mary’s (3/11) and Hartford (3/25).
  • Was terrific in no-decision outings against Niagara (3/4), UAlbany (3/18), Stony Brook (5/8), and NJIT (5/15), allowing a combined three earned runs over 23.2 innings of work.
  • Fanned a season-high nine batters against Niagara (3/4) and Stony Brook (5/8). Also whiffed eight batters in just 5.0 innings against NJIT (4/17).
  • Went 3-for-5, laced a pair of doubles, and drove in two runs in a victory against Niagara (3/6).
  • Homered and drove in a pair of runs versus Georgetown (3/1) and Navy (3/29).
  • Drove in a season-high four runs in the win against Hartford (3/27)
  • Went 3-for-5 with a double in the win against Binghamton (5/19).


As a Freshman (2021): Starred both at the plate and on the mound for the Retrievers in his first season… At the dish, he had 26 at-bats collecting six hits with three runs scored.. He had a double and a home run with five RBI and a .231 average… On the mound, he finished with a 6.51 ERA in 12 appearances and 10 starts… He went 2-3 with a complete game with 37 strikeouts in 47.0 innings of work… Hit his lone home run of the season against Maine on March 27 and drove in three runs against UAlbany the next weekend… Threw a complete-game shutout against Binghamton on May 9, where he went 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts, scattering four hits.

Background: Heads to Baltimore from Cape Henlopen High School… Had his best outing his sophomore year going 4-4 from the dish against Riverdale Baptist… Helped his team win the state title in 2018… Also lettered in soccer earning First Team All-State honors… Son of Karen and Drew Johnson… Has one sibling, Sam who plays baseball at Washington College… Father Drew played baseball at Maryland and played professionally in the Orioles organization… Lists favorite pro team as the Washington Capitals and favorite food as steak… When not playing baseball he likes to surf and fish.
